Peter - our heartfelt tribute

A tribute to Peter

When I first received an invitation to the celebration of Peter’s life, two things jumped out the email. What a perfect picture had been chosen and capture all his kind qualities in one. And there was this - We’d love you to share photographs, write a tribute to Peter. Well, the pictures we have, came from Ann but the opportunity to write a tribute albeit a small one but nonetheless a BIG tribute was unmissable.

I first met Peter as one of three Brits who were on the Owner President Program at Harvard Business School in Cambridge USA, which was so structured to last for three weeks a year for three years. Ours was known as OPM 17 and started in May 1989. The other fellow Brit was Alec Reed, now Sir Alec. We were alone on the course which comprised of some sixty from the USA and forty odd from the rest of the globe. I hope you will appreciate amongst that group; it was hard to stand out but Peter sure did – his charm, wise carriage, affability and always a super listener must be the reasons for that. His endearing nickname of “Old money” I suspect was because some of the more brash entrepreneurs looked up to him. As a result of being on that course with him, sprung an enduring friendship of our two families as indeed it did with other course participants. Before leaving this topic of some 30 years vintage, recently my inbox runneth over from classmates sending condolences citing Peter’s many qualities

It is a well-known fact my life has been full of ups and big downs that my family has had to endure but it was a measure of the man and his wife Ann that never for a moment did it ever deter them from loving friendship. A measure of Peter was that they both would happily jump in the car to come over a hundred miles to ours for a few hours gathering.

The brain passeth all understanding and we hope dear, dear Peter will RIP.
With the fondest of memories.
